June 3 @ 9:00 AM - 2:30 PM ADTFree
We’re crossing the NB border to check out Hopewell Rocks, on Sunday, June 3, weather permitting. RSVPs will open at 9:00 a.m. on May 20.
According to the tide tables on their website, ocean floor access is between 7:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.; we’ll endeavour to arrive at 9:00 a.m. The event start time is at Hopewell Rocks, factor in your travel time and remember there is a toll on the Cobequid highway ($3 as I recall; I pay through my MacPass.). Google Maps says it’s a 3-hour drive from Dartmouth to the Park.
Directions: From Halifax take Route#102 north to Truro, then Route #104 west (TCH) to the New Brunswick border, where it becomes Route #2. At Exit 467 east of Moncton, take Route #15 and follow the signs for Fundy National Park. At Riverview, turn south on Route #114. Distance/Time: 340 km; 3 to 4 hours.
After a few hours on the floor of the Bay of Fundy, we’ll head for dry land. Members who want to stay and watch the tide come in are welcome to do so; I hope to do a time lapse of the tide arriving.
Participants should bring lunch/snacks and water. Waterproof footwear is a must. Dress for the weather. That said, this will be cancelled if the Hopewell Rocks area weather forecast is 3mm of rain or more.
The park has a $10 admission fee; we may qualify for a reduced group rate.
Attendance is limited to 15 members; as this is a public space, quests are welcome but they should try to stay out of photographers’ way.
